Pantone Unveils Color of the Year for 2010: PANTONE 15-5519 Turquoise

Turquoise Transports Us to an Exciting, Tropical Paradise While Offering a Sense of Protection and Healing in Stressful Times

CARLSTADT, N.J., Dec. 8, 2009 –Pantone LLC, an X-Rite company (NASDAQ: XRIT), and the global authority on color and provider of professional color standards for the design industries, today announced PANTONE® 15-5519 Turquoise, an inviting, luminous hue, as the color of the year for 2010. Combining the serene qualities of blue and the invigorating aspects of green, Turquoise evokes thoughts of soothing, tropical waters and a languorous, effective escape from the everyday troubles of the world, while at the same time restoring our sense of wellbeing.

“In many cultures, Turquoise occupies a very special position in the world of color,” explains Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute®. “It is believed to be a protective talisman, a color of deep compassion and healing, and a color of faith and truth, inspired by water and sky. Through years of color word-association studies, we also find that Turquoise represents an escape to many – taking them to a tropical paradise that is pleasant and inviting, even if only a fantasy.”

Whether envisioned as a tranquil ocean surrounding a tropical island or a protective stone warding off evil spirits, Turquoise is a color that most people respond to positively. It is universally flattering, has appeal for men and women, and translates easily to fashion and interiors. With both warm and cool undertones, Turquoise pairs nicely with any other color in the spectrum. Turquoise adds a splash of excitement to neutrals and browns, complements reds and pinks, creates a classic maritime look with deep blues, livens up all other greens, and is especially trend-setting with yellow-greens.

In fashion, Turquoise makes a statement that can look elegant and dressy in fine silk and gemstones, or casual and fun in cotton and athletic apparel. Because of its versatility, Turquoise is a great accent color in jewelry, purses, shoes, hair accessories and even nail polish for women, and ties, shirts and sportswear for men.

For brides wanting a flattering choice for attendant apparel and accessories on their big day, Turquoise is now one of the nearly 200 PANTONE WEDDING Colors available from Dessy, a leading manufacturer of bridesmaid, social occasion and flower girl dresses, as well as destination wedding gowns under the labels Dessy Collection, After Six, Alfred Sung, Lela Rose Bridesmaid and Sandals Destination Wedding Dresses. PANTONE WEDDING exclusively from Dessy provides a collection of color tools to make it easy for brides to achieve perfectly color-coordinated weddings – from inspiration to “I do.”

Additionally, Turquoise is one of 3,000 colors available in Pantone’s line of superior-quality, eco-friendly paint. PANTONE Paints combine the accuracy of PANTONE Colors with the beauty of high-performance Dutch paints. Perfect for a powder room or bedroom, Turquoise is an evocative, spa-like hue that adds an undertone of warmth and excitement to any cool space. In the kitchen, Turquoise adds a unique flare to tabletop and appliances.

Respect

A friend of mine got in touch with me earlier today and asked if I could spare some time to put together a poster for him. The poster was for the University of Portsmouth's football teams in conjunction with the FA's respect campaign. The end result came out really nice, using the colours featured in a lot of the FA's original press material and imagery.

THANK YOU SCOTT MAGILL

Over the summer, I did some design work for a little skate company based in South Wales. In total I think I did about 10 designs, 8 of which have now been printed as part of their autumn winter 09/10 collection, and a couple of which have been saved for the following season.
Today i received a package from Scott (the owner) with a sample of all my designs that were printed.
The tees have come out great and Scott has been a good guy to work for.
Check their website to place orders.

Thanks Scott

'Young drivers excess'

Today I went to my car to drive my friends and me to uni.
and this is what I found.
Fortunately nothing was taken but the police took my sat-nav so nobody else could.
Also I am led to believe that the cretins responsible have been caught.
I would like to meet them.

Writing a CV is poor.
It is bad enough having to write a whole document that is intended to convince someone how amazing you are. But doing a Creative CV is something else.
Not only does your text have to say you're amazing, but your layout has to say you're amazing.
Too much to think about.

Been looking into a lot of motion graphics recently, The Ronin, along with the Light Surgeons are two groups that I really like.

The Cult of the Individual

Got a project at the moment working with famous speeches.
The speech I was given was Nikita Khrushchev's speech from 1956.
More to come...

The image above is my idea for the cover, heavily inspired by Barbara Kruger.

SOUP

Last week in groups of four we had to choose a four letter word and then we had to act out our word in front of a camera. When we had to act it out we were a man down so I stepped in and did two letters.

50 Photographs

At uni we were recently set a brief where we were given a list of 50 phrases. For each phrase we had to produce one image.
None of the photos were allowed to be digital. I am not particularly good with film cameras, so I went the easy route and chose to use disposable cameras to produce my photographs.
I have always loved the effect you can get with a disposable camera, and the nostalgia it can provide.

Here are some of my favourites from my 50 along with the phrases they represent.

Shameless Self Promotion.

A few weeks back I decided it would be a good idea to start a clothing brand.
So I did.

It's called Bake Designs, and so far I have four designs available.

Have a look and buy some stuff.

SAFE

presentation

So a couple of weeks ago we had to do a group presentation, I worked with Josh and Chris, and we absolutely smashed it. Thank you to Chris and Josh for being part of the dream team.

But more importantly thank you to everybody we got in touch with who got back to us. We emailed about 20 artists and designers as part of our research, and heard back from some really great people. Each of them gave us some really great insight into their working lives, and inspiration as well.

Thank you.

This is a list of a few of our favourites.

Photography

So i figured I would start with some photos i have taken recently.
Winter is definately here.

Time to start a blog.
I've had a blog in the past and neglected it horribly.
This time it's going to be good.

I'm going to post work i have created as well as other work and things that have inspired me.
