NEGLECT

So I've sort of neglected this blog of late, had a lot of things going on including setting up a blog for Bake, on top of that I've been pretty busy doing new designs for tees as well as a couple of other small briefs that I've had on the go. One of the finished projects that I have been most happy with was this little logo and branding I've put together for a new Ice Hockey goaltending academy and database.

Welcome to Weston

For the final outcome of a project based on Weston Supermare I did a little personal investigation into old seaside signage, and how it has become so iconic. My main focus was on old fashioned fish and chip shop signs. I wanted to explore whether it was the style or content of the signs that made them so iconic, i.e. whether people appreciate the design of them, or whether people just appreciate fish and chips.

I basically played around with loads of different combinations of words that I could apply this style to, so really anything with an 'and'. Scampi and Lemon, Batman and Robin, Lock Stock and 2 Smoking Barrells. I tried around 90 combinations before I was satisfied with my conclusion.

I personally came to the conclusion that the style of the signs was what made them so iconic. No matter what meaningless pairing i applied the style to each one looked great.

The outcome was presented as a 100 page perfect bound book, that I bound myself.

Just watched 'I'm Here' by Spike Jonze, heard a bit about it long before the release and saw the trailer but it kind of passed me by until now. it should be watched by everybody. Truly beautiful.

Forward/Rewind

During the last term i have been creating a book based on the theme of Forward/Rewind.
My project was based around Salvation Army brass bands and more specifically around my family's history within them.
When I started the project my knowledge of our family history was somewhat limited, but during the project I have developed a greater understanding of the subject, and become increasingly proud as the subject has gone on.
The final outcome is a 56 page perfect bound book, with a screen printed cover. Accompanying the book is a set of three posters which display through the means of a family tree, all the members of my family who have been members of the Salvation Army throughout the years.
